Natural Cemetery Opens

by Jill Raygor
The Ithaca Times

"Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve, set to open later this month in Newfield, is the state's first 'natural' cemetery. This 100-acre space on Irish Hill is bound by the 4,000-acre Arnot Forest and 4,000-acre Newfield State Forest. And for organizers of Greensprings, it seems the perfect space for the country's fifth natural burial ground. 'It's the most natural thing in the world to be buried in a way that you are part of the Earth, instead of in a hyper-protected place where you will not touch the Earth at all,' said Greensprings board member Carl Leopold."
